World in Words

The world is more than just oceans, mountains, and cities; it is a living story, and that story is told through words. Each culture, each country, and each individual contributes a sentence to the magnificent story of mankind. "World in Words" expresses the concept that language influences how we perceive the earth and how we relate to one another.

Words tear down the walls formed by borders and replace them with bridges. A simple "hello" in a different language can unlock the doors of people's hearts. An extraordinary speech has the power to motivate individuals to bring about change. A poem might be the carrier of feelings that are understood on different continents. Through books, blogs, and discussions, we are able to "travel" without physically moving, and we become acquainted with lifestyles, principles, and aspirations which may be quite different from ours but are essentially human.

In the current technological era, the world has become more vocal than ever. Social media, websites, and mass media news help the voices of people living in small towns as well as in big cities to reach every corner of the globe. Good news, hard times, smart ideas, and brave acts are all stories that resonate with people instantly, reminding us of how connected we really are in this vast world.

But with the power of words comes the weight of responsibility as well. In fact, words that bring people together are the very same words that have the power to alienate them. Words that can heal wounds can be the very same that hurt. One way we can make a positive impact on the global dialogue is by choosing our words wisely. If the exchange of words is conducted with respect, it will surely lead to the development of a deeper comprehension between the participants; whereas if stories are told with the intention of preserving culture and history, it will be a virtue handed down from generation to generation.

"World in Words" is much more than just communication; it is a connection. It involves speaking as well as listening. We are people of the world, hugely divided physically and separating us with distance metaphorically, until we share our stories and understand others', then the world converges us as neighbours with shared experiences.

In the end, our world is written in words, and through their use, we are granted the ability to collectively build a future that is better for everyone.
